Your smile is important. It’s one of the first things you notice when you meet someone. A whiter, brighter smile is beautiful. The way you use it attracts people’s attention, positively and negatively It can help you feel better about yourself and make a memorable impression.
Teeth Whitening
This whitening treatment can provide a more instant result, with your teeth being whitened by up to 8 to 15 shades in just one hour.
A professional strength, whitening agent, is applied to your teeth. However, with this treatment, a specially designed lamp is also used. The light has been clinically proven safe for tooth enamel as well as skin, gums and other soft tissues. It emits virtually no heat and no harmful UV (ultraviolet) or laser light.
The lamps are uniquely shaped to illuminate and whiten all “smile line” teeth (top and bottom) at the same time, ensuring an even, natural and beautiful result.
The light is used in combination with patented whitening gel, which has been optimised for patient safety and maximum results.
Am I Eligible for Teeth Whitening?
You’re eligible for a teeth whitening procedure if you’re –
- Experiencing stained and discoloured teeth.
- Know and understand the process thoroughly.
- Have realistic expectations.
These are the bare minimum, and your dentist may consider other things as well before deciding whether or not this procedure will suit you. Besides, it may depend on your circumstances.
How Much Time Will An In-Chair Tooth Whitening Treatment Take?
Typically, in-chair teeth whitening treatments will require between 1 and 2 hours. The time needed will vary depending on – the product your dentist uses, the treatment method used – ultraviolet light or laser and your circumstances.
During Teeth Whitening Treatment What Happens?
Teeth whitening treatment begins with an initial consultation with your Pristine Dental Care-approved dentist. Your dentist needs to complete a full check-up to decide which treatment will be best for you.
- Your dentist will place either a gel or rubber shield on your gums for an in-chair tooth whitening procedure. It shields your gums and other soft tissues from the effects of bleaching.
- Then, your dentist will apply the whitening product to your teeth. The active agent in whitening products is usually either carbamide peroxide or hydrogen peroxide.
- The active ingredients get crushed, and as oxygen enters the enamel on your teeth, stains get eliminated, giving you a brighter smile.
- For activating the whitening product, some treatments may use a light or laser.
Are Teeth Whitening Painful?
The pain experienced may differ from one person to another, and it also depends on the method used. Most adults may experience slight discomfort that may last between one and two days after the treatment. Your dentist will prescribe necessary painkillers to relieve the pain. Besides, your dentist may direct you to apply gel fluoride in your teeth whitening tray to help reduce sensitivity.
Are Teeth Whitening a Permanent Solution?
Teeth whitening is not a lasting or permanent solution. Depending on your circumstances, it may last from a few months up to two years or more. If you often drink dark liquids, such as coffee, tea or red wine, or smoke, the treatment will get impacted.
Are Teeth Whitening Safe?
Teeth whitening treatment administered by a practised dentist is 100% safe! Your Pristine Dental Care-approved dentist will give you protective goggles that you will have to wear. And your dentist will use rubber shields and gels to safeguard your gums from exposure to the active bleaching ingredients during the in-chair procedure. Likewise, in the rare case of an allergic reaction, your Pristine Dental Care-approved dentist is a trained practitioner and is available to provide quick and timely care.
If you choose take-home tooth whitening treatment, your Pristine Dental Care-approved dentist will make bespoke trays that will perfectly fit your teeth. These trays are ideal for reducing the contact between the whitening product and your gums, which may cause discomfort.
Will Teeth Whitening Harm the Teeth?
A common question many patients ask is ‘Will teeth whitening harm the teeth?’ and ‘Will bleaching the teeth damage the enamel?’ A straight answer is these procedures do not harm the teeth. Tooth whitening products used by an accredited dentist will not damage your tooth enamel. Besides, enamel is one of the firmer tissues in the human body. Whitening treatment may cause temporary tooth sensitivity, but it would not permanently harm your tooth enamel.
Who Does Not Qualify for Teeth Whitening Treatment?
Teeth whitening treatment is not advisable for the following people:
- Pregnant or lactating women
- And people having allergies to peroxide.

Home Bleaching
Home Bleaching is the more popular approach today. We take an impression of your teeth and make a custom – fitted tray, which you fill with a whitening gel and wear up to two hours. When done under the supervision of your dentist, at-home whitening is very effective.
For some, being able to whiten your teeth in the comfort of your own home is the perfect solution. At Totally Teeth we offer a whitening treatment which allows just that. We create custom-fitted mouthguards that are used as trays in which the whitening gel is placed.
The whitening mouthguards are worn for for 30 min a day (or 2 x 15 min) each day. This whitening treatment can take just days to complete with the results gradually changing over that time. Some patients may need up to 2 weeks so ensure that if you are whitening your smile for an event or occasion that you give yourself enough time should you need. Each and every patient is different and your Dentist can assess your suitability and advise if this option may work for you.
There are many smile-enhancing procedures available to give you the smile of your dreams. At Pristine Dental Care we can help you. Only a Dentist can be given a safe and effective professional Teeth Whitening with results that last.
